A dynamic economy
The East Midlands is the fourth largest English region, situated in the centre of the country. Its size is matched by its diversity, and the region comprises the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland. Major urban conurbations include Derby, Leicester, Nottingham, Lincoln and Northampton.

The region has a population of over 4 million people, with almost half living in the major cities, but also around 40% living in villages and towns of less that 10,000 - making the East Midlands a highly rural, as well as an urban region.
Our economy is diverse with world-leading companies in sectors including electronics, engineering, pharmaceuticals and food & drink. In addition, the workforce is both highly flexible and skilled and with eight leading universities, many of which are world renowned in terms of their research excellence.
